Merry Christmas

I'm getting this in at the very last minute!! Christmas is almost over. Just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Hope you got everything on your list...and enjoyed a day with your families and friends. We had a wonderful Christmas. Eating tons of yummy food, spending time with our families and enjoying the boys. Every year gets to more and more fun for John...He woke up about 3am to see if Santa had come or not. He came and told me he had and what he had left. He said..."Mama, I just couldn't go back to sleep!" But, he did and didn't get up till 7:30...then of course the playing began. Alex enjoyed it as well but at times it was a little overwhelming. He loved his toothbrush from Santa (in his stocking). He brushed his teeth all morning. =)

I now know how much joy my parents felt each year when my sister and I would open our gifts or see what Santa had brought us. There is nothing quite like that anticipation and excitement in their eyes. It's a joy to give to your children! I would imagine the Lord felt the same way when he sent the greatest gift of all to us on this day - his son. What a beautiful, precious gift. I want to make sure my boys always remember that as the meaning of Christmas.

And to you and yours...Merry Christmas...

Hustle and Bustle

Man this time of year is soooo busy!! How does it get so busy in such a short period of time? This is John's last week of school and the last week of school for students here, too. Graduation is Saturday. Unbelievable.

Just need to remember to keep our focus on the 'baby Jesus' as John tells me every time we see the nativity seen anywhere. Christmas and how we celebrate it is different for everyone. We each have our own traditions and celebrations but our focus and intent is most important. Our pastor spoke on Joseph yesterday. I had never heard a message on Joseph before. You know he was a really good man. My pastor made a good point on that. He was a righteous man and was right with the Lord even before Mary became pregnant. He said something that really stood out to me...are we righteous and ready for the Lord's call in our lives? Would we even recognize that call? Joseph did, he answered it, would we?

Say a little prayer for my grandmother please. She had to be admitted to the hospital this weekend with some heart problems. She's doing better and hopefully will go home this afternoon or tomorrow.

Merry Christmas~

Check the new link to Trey's CaringBridge site, just click over on his name under links. There are new pictures from his birthday party...very cute!!

I liked this quote from my calendar on my desk yesterday...

Discipline

I think the hardest part about being a parent is disciplining. My boys are such good boys. Sometimes though as all children do they need to be disciplined. Last night John needed a strong hand of discipline. It was hard for me...as we've all heard from a parent harder on me than you. But, really it was. I thought about how hard it must be for the Lord to discipline us as his children. This verse stood out to me "My son do not despise the Lord's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TREY!

Trey turned 1 year old on Saturday! Isn't that just so hard to believe?! He's such a sweet little boy. I am so blessed to have him in my life. Looking back over his first year it just reminds me all there is to be thankful for and how blessed we really are. I couldn't love him anymore than if he were my own son. Check out his CaringBridge site.

Congratulations to Candice who is now engaged!! I wish you all the happiness in the world girl you deserve it!! God is so good.

See my post below on SugarLand - saw them in concert last night in Clemson. It was awesome!! Jennifer Nettles is so adorable. Not sure where she gets all that energy. Hope they tour again soon!

Sugarland

Have you heard Sugarland's new CD? Well, you should either download it or buy it. I'm still in the buying CD world. Maybe after Christmas I will buy the Ipod I've been wanting and get in to the downloading world. Sugarland is awesome and the new CD rocks. Jennifer Nettles is really good. I like all the songs but some favorits are:
"Want To"
"Happy Ending"
"These Are the Days"
"Everyday America"
"Mean Girls"

Check it out. When you go to he website you'll hear a couple of the songs.

Voting

I am behind in posting I realize...no Halloween pictures yet. I need to get to that very soon. They have 'fixed' our computers at work so that we can't download any pictures from our computers. This is due to students placing inappropriate pictures on Facebook and MySpace so....I find it harder to find the time at home to post pictures.

Stay tuned for family pictures...Candice came down this weekend and took our pictures in Falls Park in Greenville. I'm sure they are going to be awesome. She took about 400 shots - some posed some candid. I can't wait to see them. I'll be using some of them for Christmas cards...

I voted today. I always feel like I'm choosing between the lesser of 2 evils. My sister and I had a pretty heated discussion about it last night. I'm a little more liberal and she's a little more conservative. The cool thing is thought that we can share our opinions and still love and respect one another. That's a credit to our parents and the home we were raised in! I just don't like to let moral issues cloud my judgment when it comes to politicians. I like to keep church and state separate. We'll see how it turns out I guess. It was cool how the touch screens worked and how they had an explanation for all the amendments. It was a very easy, fast process. I was the 86th voter at my precinct and the older lady who checked me in was very excited with the turn out. She made me smile =).

Look for a Happy Birthday shout out tomorrow to someone very special!!

Promises, memories, etc...

I know I promised field trip pictures and I will post them when I get home this afternoon. We had camera issues and then I just got lazy!!! Sorry for the delay in keeping my promise.

11 years ago today Shon proposed to me. He took me up off of Hwy 11 on a picnic and with the trees all beautiful in their fall colors he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. He made me very happy that day and continues to do so each day. It really doesn't seem like 11 years ago, it seems like only yesterday.

It's a busy week at work with Homecoming this weekend. Many, many activities are going to be taking place.

WAY TO GO TIGERS!!

Fall break and field trips

I went with John on his first field trip yesterday. I promise I will post a picture later. I don't have the camera with me at work today. It was a really fun trip. We went to a little farm in Pelzer. The bus ride there was quite the adventure (loud!). We went on a hay ride, though the corn maze, bat cave and alligator aly. We saw chickens, a goat and donkey, turkeys and a huge pig. We got to pick out a pumpkin each and had a picnic lunch. It was a beautiful day. I enjoyed getting to put faces with all the names I hear about. I got to meet Alyssa Dear and I got to see that my John is quite the ladies man. He got a big hug from a beautiful little girl Alexis (he hugged back, too!). Anytime, the little girl's moms were taking pictures he gladly joined in for the picture. It was a great day. He fell asleep on the bus ride back. I still can't believe he's so grown up. One thing is for sure though I couldn't be a teacher and I have the highest respect for those of you who are (ASHLEY!). I look forward to many more field trips with my boys though! It sure doesn't take much to impress 5 years olds. Although there was debate over which was better recess or the farm, I think the votes were tied at 50/50.

It's fall break here at SWU this week and the quiet has been so nice. It comes so fast after we start back and is so appreciated once it gets here. I love Fall it's my favorite time of year. The leaves are changing, there is a crispness in the air and of course there is FOOTBALL! Wow - those Tigers really pulled out a close one this weekend...I missed it though..went to a wedding and when I went in it was 17-3 and when I came back out to the van before the reception they had come back to win. Had to rely on the highlights on the news. Anyway...I'm looking forward to tomorrow and Friday off. It's supposed to be nice weather although a little cooler which I'm looking forward to. I like the first hint of sweater weather.

Alex is great too by the way...his new words are down and gone gone. Of course he's usually referring to food when he says gone gone. And down is always when you pick him up and he is not ready to stop doing whatever it was he was doing. He likes telling the kitties 'no no' and in the mornings telling John to come on when he's ready to go. His version is 'dohn, mon'. Too cute I must say.

Pictures to come...promise.

My inspiration...

Happy anniversary to me and Shon! 9 years of marriage and 16 years together! It's been a wonderful adventure. Shon, you are my inspiration, my very best friend. I appreciate you and all you do for me. Thank you for everything. I look forward to many, many more memories. Love ya!

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Congratulations!

My parents celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary Monday. WOW! That is a really long time. I just wanted to let them know how very honored I am to have them as my parents and how much of an impact their wonderful example of marriage has made on my life. They've never pretended that it's easy and I now know that it's not always easy - there are good days and bad, but they have remained faithful to each other and to the Lord for all these years and provided both me and Ashley with far more than we ever deserved, no matter what they had to sacrifice for themselves. I thank the Lord for them and for the love they have for one another. I know he has great things in store for both of you with many more wonderful years of marriage to come. I love you both very much!!

My Little Bookworm

Alex loves to read. He got that from me. Shon is not a reader, except for his car magazines. He's such a sweet little boy. I love this age because his personality is developing so much. His new words this week were 'hot', 'pop tart' and 'up'. He's also now saying all the time 'want dis' and we play a game in the car he says 'Mama' and I say back 'Alex' about 20 times on the way to daycare. It's so much fun watching him discover all the new things he can do.

Have a great weekend! Go TIGERS!!! =)

Sweet Dreams

I love this picture! John loves school but he comes home pretty tired and bedtime is no problem, pretty much as soon as his head hits the pillow he is out. He's starting to tell us more stories about school now. Little things here and there. There is a little girl in his class that sits with him at his table. Her name is Alyssa Dear. Anytime he tells us a story about her he uses both her first and last name, it's so cute...he'll say "Alyssa Dear did this, or Alyssa Dear did that." I don't know if they have 2 Alyssa's or if he just likes using her whole name or what but it's really funny to hear him talk about her. I just can't believe how fast he's growing up!!

September 11, 2001

My calendar for today (it was printed in 1994) says this...

"Do every act of your life as if it were your last." Marcus Aurelius

I think that is fitting as we remember this day.

I love you...

In Chapel on Tuesday the message was about saying I love you but not really meaning what God intended those words to mean. When we tell someone we love them we should be willing to die to ourselves and die for them. That really hit home with me. There are only a few people that we would really be willing to die for in our lives. I mean if we are really honest but there are lots of people that we say I love you to. Jesus loved us so much that he was willing to die for us - he proved it on the cross. Something to think about...

Where did the week go?!

Man this past week flew by! I never got a chance to post. Work is busy right now with the students back. Just trying to get organized and things set up is time consuming. Here are a couple of pictures from Bristol. We had an awesome time. It was great. The first picture is during the race and the 2nd is of the pre-race tribute to the USA. It was really cool. Definitely one I will want to go back to as often as possible!
Things are going well at work so far. There is a different spirit on our campus this year. You can feel it strongly. Especially in our Chapel services so far. I pray that it continues - we need it.
The boys are doing great! John has adjusted well to kindergarten. He still comes home pretty tired! Otherwise he seems to love it. Alex new words today were 'John stop' but he says it like this "Dohn, top" while pointing his finger at John during the stop part, it's just hilarious to watch them play together now. Alex loves for John to chase him around the house. And for John to let him 'chase' him around the house.
We saw Trey today, too. He's getting so big! He's crawling all over the place. Soon to be a year old...man that is unbelievable.
Promise to post more often this week!

Bristol Motor Speedway here we come...

Big shout out goes to my husband's best friend Jason Few...he called today with 2 FREE, yes FREE tix to the Bristol night race. Now, you see Jason could not go, so that means that I get to go. (Otherwise, like last year it'd be Shon and Jason going). I've always wanted to go to this race, being the Nascar fan that I am (yes, Lisa, I really am...). So, we are going to Bristol, YIPEE. I'm so excited. I will take pictures and post them for all to see.

Updates...

Well, so far so good with kindergarten. John told me Sunday as we were getting his clothes ready for the week "I really like this kindergarten thing." He had to wear a certain color every day this week. He loved that of course. Today was blue day. I'm wearing blue, too. I don't think he noticed though. The only thing he doesn't like is homework...boy does he have a lot of fun times ahead. He's only had to practice writing his name a few times and collect a few things to take in. Otherwise he's doing great.

Alex is good. I don't remember if I posted that we got 2 new kittens or not. Lil Munchkin and Ranger. Alex absolutely loves to watch them play together. That is his favorite thing to do. He'll stand at the door and just watch them. He constantly has to go to the door to check on the kitties. I'll try to post pictures soon.

The students are back at SWU. So far so good. I enjoy seeing the freshman come to school. Although, this year I've realized they just don't look old enough to be here. I think that means I'm getting old.

I have a prayer request, a former student I spent a lot of time with last semester Roscoe is facing surgery in a couple of weeks he needs your prayers. Thanks....

And so it begins...

Well, today was John's first day of kindergarten. It was a good morning. He was a little more quiet than usual but he seemed very excited and such a big boy. I still can't believe he is 5, it seems like only yesterday when they handed me that little blue eyed, blond headed bundle of joy. I didn't cry this morning - because I had already cried a few times yesterday and the day before. He gave me and his Daddy a big hug when we left him. The school did a big thing for parents this morning so we got to visit his classroom for awhile, meet with the principal and then there was a big pep rally before we left. It was nice. I know this is the beginning of many first steps in our journey together...
My good friend Debbie sent me a card in the mail with a poem inside yesterday. I thought I would share it with all of you. It of course made me cry but it's so perfect.

WHOSE CHILD IS THIS?
Author Unknown

"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a little one at play
"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while
To bathe his hands and comb his hair
To tell him what he is to wear
To prepare him that he may always be good
And each day do the things he should"

"Whose child is this?" I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile
"Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach him how to be gentle and kind
To train and direct his dear little mind
To help him live by every rule
And get the best he can from school"

"Whose child is this?" I ask once more
Just as the little one entered the door
"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled
And each took the hand of the little child
"Ours to love and train together
Ours this blessed task forever."

Best Buddies

This is John and his best buddy Little John. We had Little John over to spend the night a couple of weekends ago for a last get together before school started. The 2 of them have stayed at the same daycare since they were about 6 months old. Because my John is about 3 months older they are Big John and Little John. It is has been such a joy to watch them grow up together. They won't be going to the same school but I hope they can stay friends.

Tomorrow is the big day!! John is excited. I'll admit I'm a little sad. I'll share my thoughts tomorrow.

Daddy's Helper

Alex loves to help his Daddy. Here he is helping him in the Herron Performance shop. The funny thing is we have a picture of John at the same age in the same outfit helping Shon work on his car, too. I guess that is the nature of little boys and their Daddy's!!

I registered John for kindergarten today. I really like his teacher Mrs. Miller. I think it will be a great year. He really didn't think today was all that much fun...standing in line, paying fees, etc wasn't all that exciting to him. Hopefully, Wed the first day will be more fun.

Alex and his Daddy

Alex is his Daddy's boy, especially on the beach. He would get pretty tired and on this day he was just plain worn out so him and Daddy decided to just give it up and kick back and relax. Aren't they just the cutest pair ever?! Alex is starting to put a few sentences together, of course these are 2 word sentences and his favorite one is "Hey Daddy" when Shon gets home. I can see why he loves him so much! =)

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Congratulations to my best friend Jennifer and her husband Jim who are expecting a baby in February!! I can't wait to be an 'Aunt' again!! John is hoping for a girl. Alex will probably be jealous....

Congratulations also to Candice...she has a boyfriend. We're not telling John though..it would break his heart. No one deserves this more than you girl!

It sure is hot here in the South, supposed to be 99 today. Thank the Lord for air condition!!

Kindergarten teacher

Friday John got a letter from his kindergarten teacher. When I asked him if he was excited about having her, Mrs. Miller he said "no, but she sure is excited about having me in her class - she sent me a letter." Only 2 more weeks and the excitement begins!

Beach Trip 06

I know, I know. It has taken me awhile to get this post up and I will have more pictures up soon (I hope). It has been a crazy week at work and I'm afraid it's just the beginning!! I just want to share a few things John said at the beach with you today. He told my mom on one of our first nights after we got there while they were out on the balcony..."wouldn't it be cool if we were in China now, b/c it's sunny there now and we wouldn't have to go to bed we could just play all day." This comes from Shon always telling him since he was probably 2 when the sun goes down here that it's rising in China. Then while we were at the Pavillion riding the Log Flume when it was all over and we finished coming down the second big hill he said "I was a little afraid of that ride but now that I know what it's all about I love it!" This was of course after he said at the top of the very same hill "I wish we had never gotten on this ride." I'll have more stories and pictures for you later.

Posed pictures with Alex are difficult right now he's just too busy exploring the world. He loved the ocean, even in his face - he'd just wipe it off and keep going. Funniest thing though he couldn't stand for the sand to get on his hands!

Have a great weekend!

Unwanted critters...

Well, we had an unwanted guest today. I was on my way out to Prayer Partners tonight. I was taking my stuff to the van and then going to get the kids in to take to my parents (Shon had to work late) and I noticed something unusual in the driveway. At first I wasn't sure what it was, then as I looked again I was pretty sure it was a Copperhead. So, I quickly came back in the house and called Shon who suggested I just run over it. Due to where it was on the driveway that just wasn't possible. So, I called my parents and they came over. My Dad - my hero - killed the snake...quite the ordeal though...he ran over it first with the old truck and then hit it with a hoe...thank goodness. It was pretty big, at least 2 feet and definitely a Copperhead. Now, my least favorite thing in the world is a snake and to think we have the poisonous variety - yikes. I think we'll be investing in a Cat...they say that Cats keep snakes away...if that's a wives tale... please don't tell me. Thanks Daddy!!! And Moma, too. Don't know what I'd do without you.

I'll have beach stories and pictures later in the week. It's been a long day...

Myrtle Beach here we come...

Tomorrow we leave for vacation. John can't wait. He has all the things he wants to do planned out. Ride go carts (the big ones) with Daddy, play in the sand, play putt-putt, ride the rides and all of this in the first couple of days. He's already got his bags packed and sitting by the back door. We haven't been since he was 3 so I'm anxious to see how excited he is when we get there. He's going to ride with Ashley and Michael since they have the awesome van with the DVD player. This will be Alex's first time at the beach so I'm interested to see how he reacts to the ocean. I'm sure he will love the sand! He'll probably do exactly what big brother does - that's usually how it goes. I'll post pictures when we get back. I won't be missing work that is for sure!

John and Alex

I made pancakes tonight, one of John and Alex's favorites. John proceeded to tell me why you have to flip them, to fry them on both sides. I told him he was a really smart kid and he said, "yeah, I'm so smart, I should be in middle school. What is middle school, anyway?"

Alex new word for today is cookie, his pronunciation was more like dookie. I'm not surprised at all that he's adding to his food word list. That's his most favorite thing!

Beach count down...4 days...

Alex and the TV remotes..

Today I have a story about Alex. He's a smart kid, well, as far as Shon is concerned. He has won over his Dad for life. The other night we were watching TV and the show was over. The remotes were on the love seat and Shon was at the computer well Alex got both remotes and proceded to take them both over to Shon. Shon gave him a high five and a big hug. Alex of course was thrilled - he's in to being highly praised for helping. And of course he loves his Daddy right now very much. So I'd have to say I think they will be buddies now forever...it was just too cute. I guess Alex likes watching the Speed Channel verses the Food Network!

Count Down

Only 7 more working days until we leave for the beach!! I can't wait. I think this year I'm going to be as bad as John...how many more days is it?!

Boy, How things change!

I decided tonight after having dinner with Shon's dad that I needed a little break so I've been looking for a bathing suit and thought I would go to Kmart and Belk's just to take a look. Well, of course ladies you know just how difficult bathing suit shopping is... 1- hard to find the right look and 2- for me, well, I'm CHEAP. Well, I took off sending the kids home with Shon (we had met there). So, it was just me thinking this is great I'm shopping for ME all by myself...well needless to say what did I come home with?! An awesome Cars bathing suit for John and adorable short set for Alex both were 50% off at Kmart so I got a great deal and they were thrilled with Lightening McQueen and Tow Mater on their new clothes. So, even when you think it's all about you for just an hour or so you can't escape this new world...being a Mommy!! And who would want to?!

PS. Thanks to my wonderful husband for allowing me those breaks here and there...Love ya!

Vacation Bible School

This week is Vacation Bible School at church. John has been looking forward to it for a few weeks now. I know how very important Bible School is because this is where I came to accept the Lord as my Savior. Well, John was telling us about his night. He said they had peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for supper with too much peanut butter. He said they got to jump on the inflatable for awhile and that was fun. He said they learned about Jesus, when he was born. I asked him if there were any other boys in his class and he said "no I was surrounded by girls." Then he said "well the only other boy in my class was Jesus, yep just me and Jesus." I just thought that was the most awesome comment. He's only 5 I know but obviously he knows who Jesus is and he felt Jesus presence enough to include him in his class last night - how cool is that. Him and Jesus the only two boys in the class. I'm in awe as I usually am by this beautiful blue eyed kid!

GROSS!

John told me yesterday that another child at daycare picks her nose. He said "Mama we tell her stop and she won't, it's grosser than kissing." At least my child does have standards...

First haircut, Cars and lightening bugs

Well, we cut Alex's hair and now he looks like a big boy!!! Sorry no pictures. I will do my best to have a picture of my big boy tomorrow. He looks so grown up now, like a little man. Just too cute. More like his Daddy now than before, if that's possible.

We took John to see Car's this weekend. Very cute movie. Of course he loved it. He told me during the movie "this is one we'll have to buy." He also had a great time catching lightening bugs. I remember how much fun that was when Ashley and I were little. We would do that at Papa and Nanny's and then put them in a jar and watch them glow all night. John caught one on Saturday night - he named him Alex and carried him around all night just like he was his little pet. He was so excited. It was the greatest thing ever. Last night he went to my parents and caught 4-5 more. Of course he has a little bug container, no jar for him. Oh, and they are easier to catch at Gan Gan and Papa's. Everything is always better and easier at the Grandparents.

Needless to say it was a great weekend. Too bad lightening bugs can't be the highlight of all our weekends, huh?!

John's Weekend

We took John on a special weekend away. We planned to do this for him before starting Kindergarten. I can't believe he will be going to kindergarten in the fall!! We took him to Atlanta for the weekend. It was awesome. We went to the Aquarium (which is GREAT if you haven't been). We took him to the Varsity for lunch, went to the Coca Cola Factory (where he drank so much Coke his stomach hurt). We swam in the hotel pool and ordered pizza delivered right to our room which was really cool to my innocent little 5 year old who's blue eyes got really big at even the suggestion of that(we don't have delivery out in Six Mile)! It was a perfect weekend for all 3 of us. I'd like to capture his innocence and bottle it up, I'm sure that it's going to disapear as quickly as school appears in the fall. Those big blue eyes full of wonder. Although he promised me while we were there that he'd always be my baby and his Daddy's, somehow I doubt that will hold true. I'll just have to hold the memory of our special weekend in my heart forever.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JENNIFER!

Today is my best friend Jennifer's birthday. She likes to remind me that she is 3 months younger than me...well you are officially 31 now. We have been friends for a long time now. We met when we were in the 8th grade. I think we're going on about 17 years of friendship now. WOW!! That is an accomplishment. Lots of ups and downs along the way but what stands out in my mind is that we have always managed to find our way back to one another, no matter what - good or bad we've always found our way back! We've had so many fun times! Trips (Ridgecrest, Centrifuge, New Orleans, Senior Week 1 and 2, Atlanta, New York, Charleston) and I hope more trips to come. Concerts - especially BON JOVI! We've shared the hard times, too and they've always made us stronger and closer which is most important. We've shared so many good times the Lord has blessed us in many ways! We were able to share in each others wedding days and you've shared in the lives of my boys which means so much to me! I look forward to sharing with you in your children's lives. There is much to look forward to. And much to thank you for.
I can't really put in to words what you mean to me, what all the good times have meant, what having you there has meant. All I can say is I love you very much and I am blessed to know you and have you in my life. I think back to the Michael W. Smith song "Friends are Friends forever if the Lord's the Lord of them" We are forever friends no doubt. Have a wonderful birthday, you're the best!!!!!

Busy, Busy!

Where does the time go? I haven't posted in a week and the time has just flown by!! In a span of a week I have attended a funeral for a precious friend. Celebrated Mother's Day by attending a picnic with my grandmother, taking my mother-in-law and mother out to dinner and celebrated another friend's completion of a master's degree. Last night my ladies prayer group met at my house for our monthly meeting. We always have a great time of fellowship. We had voiced goals last time of things we were going to work on for the month until our next meeting and I think all of us had met some of our goals. In this past week I think the Lord has really emphasized to me how blessed I am to have such special people in my life. How blessed I was to know Mrs. Becker and the wonderful example she lived -- how she adored her family. How blessed I am to have the example of a Godly Grandmother and Mother in my life. And the list goes on and on. Thank you Lord for all your many blessings.

Bagpipes, caps, gowns...

It's that time of year again...Graduation... And wow is my building quiet. It's amazing how quiet it is when all those freshman leave the building!! I have to admit this year I got a little teary eyed. Of course every year when the Bagpipes lead the graduates in it brings tears to my eyes. But this year I started seeing graduates that I had established relationships with. One after another. It's amazing to see how they've changed in just 4 short years. And to know I had some small part in their lives. Hopefully, for the better. It was a little more difficult not getting emotional. The service was really nice. I enjoyed being a part of it in a small way. CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES -- GOD BLESS!

Love and miss you, Papa!!

These 2 people both were very special in my life and had profound influence on my life. I miss them dearly.

Floating turd

Ok, so the title of my blog is Mommy's World so from time to time you have to expect 'gross' Mommy stories. So...here you go. Some of you won't find this all that gross. Last night, my wonderful husband had already fed Alex and had him in the tub (I had to work late). So, I was sitting in the bathroom with him letting him play with his toys well, I wasn't paying real close attention but I did notice that he stood up, turned around facing the tub and started well, grunting...next thing I know there is a rather large turd coming from his bottom. There just wasn't enough time to get him over the toilet. Needless to say, we had a floating turd in the tub. Yep, Alex's first floating turd. I remember that happening at least once with John. Props again to my AWESOME husband, who's just the best Daddy every - he disposed of the floating turd and cleaned the tub while I cleaned up and put a diaper on Alex. John thought the whole event was quite comical. And honestly it was.

Think on these things...

We've been studying Philippians in Sunday School. On Sunday we were discussing how we shouldn't worry and how we should concentrate and think on these things: whatever is true, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-

When you think about it God gives us many, many true, lovely, admirable excellent and praiseworthy things to think about we are so blessed. All I have to do is look at my 2 beautiful children to know this. How easily we forget and slip back in to worrying about the silly things of life that we can't control. How much better it is to concentrate on our blessings and especially what is lovely and true.

Chronicles of Narnia

Have you seen this movie? Well, if not you need to!! It's awesome. Now, I'm not one to usually want to pay full price for a movie but this is one I would have paid full price in the theater to see. We watched it with John on Sunday night (thanks Ash for letting us borrow it). He loves it...we'll have to buy it for him I'm sure! It's pure fantasy of course but just goes to the heart of good verses evil but more than that the love between brothers and sisters.

If you haven't seen it I recommend that you do.

Trey's Dedication

Yesterday was my nephew Trey's dedication. This was a very special day. You see there was a time when we weren't sure if we were going to see this day. I knew deep down in my heart that we would. I made a promise to the Lord, yes I know we shouldn't make promises to God. I'm reminded of the hymn "Standing on the Promises of God our Savior." We should remember to stand on his promises and not try to bargain with him but when things are going wrong or not as we had planned we always try to bargain. Well, my promise was simply this: if he made Trey ok then I would tell anyone who would listen about this precious little miracle. How easy is that?! I love him as if he were my very own little boy. And I love his Mommy very much, too and I am awed by her courage and strength. He's adorable and such a good baby. He's our precious, little miracle and sharing that news to everyone is the easy part - having the faith that the Lord would get us through - that was well the struggle I must say. But, he did and I knew all along he would. I hope I can be a reflection of God's love for him as he grows up and never ever forget to share the miracle that he is every single chance that I get!!

I'm back...

I've been absent from the blogging world lately...busy!! First Alex was sick, then John was sick (not with the dreaded stomach virus though...thank the Lord!), and of course then I was sick...me and John are blessed with the tendency towards bronchitis, great fun for us and those around us. We sound like barking dogs...right Daddy?! Anyway...I'm back and will be more diligent in posting. Work is busy...but there is light at the end of the tunnel. 2 more weeks until graduation. WOW! YIPEE... I might actually tear up this year. This will be the first year where I will see a class graduate that I have watched for their entire 4 years, what a transformation, a HUGE transformation for some of them. Hopefully, I've planted a seed in some of their lives and hearts and made a difference to some of them in some small way.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO CANDICE!!! Candice was the inspiration for this blog and is a good friend. She's also John's first love. :-) We miss you Candice and wish you a very happy day. She inspires me because even when she was betrayed beyond what anyone can imagine she turned to the Lord and found comfort and courage there, handling things with amazing grace and wisdom. I'd like to hope I'd be able to do that. Love ya, girl!!

Happy weekend!

Update on Alex

Alex is doing much better..thanks for your thoughts and prayers. He seems to be back to himself. Smiling and hungry this morning!! That's his normal. We're still hopeful and prayerful that no one else gets it!

In other news...as most of you already know...it is FRIDAY!!! YIPEE. No big plans for the weekend which is always nice.

The quote on my calendar today was this I think it's worth sharing. "Joy is the flag you fly when the Prince of Peace is in residence within your heart." Wilfred Peterson

Sick baby...

Alex woke up vomiting last night. Pitiful little thing. I feel so helpless when my babies are sick. He was just so sad. So pale and helpless. I want to fix it and make it all better of course I tried but there is not an instant fix this time. There isn't much I have problems dealing with but I DESPISE stomach viruses. But, hopefully we have survived the worst. That is my prayer anyway - that he is on the mend and that no one else in the family will get sick. I cleaned like a mad woman all morning so hopefully that will help.

Pray for healing for baby Alex and wellness for the rest of us. God teaches us to trust him even in these tiny little trying times. The very thing we despise the most is the very thing we must trust him the most to handle for us.

Accomplishments...

Wellness Week is all over...thank goodness. It was a big success. I have only heard positive comments from the students and staff. It always feels good to have accomplished/completed something you've worked on for a long period of time. I also gave blood during the blood drive we had on campus. I feel like this is important as well - I shouldn't ask my employees and students to do something I myself am not willing to do. I unit of blood potentially saves 3 lives!

We had a great weekend as well. John had a birthday party for his friend Robin. It was at a horse farm so he got to ride a horse. He seemed to enjoy this very much. It was a beautiful day. Alex is getting closer and closer to taking those first steps. I'll keep you posted on that.

Have a great week.

Why doubt?

After 31 years you would think I would know that the Lord is in control of everything!! Our speaker today in Chapel did an excellent job - he spoke not only to my student but to all of us. I look forward to what God has in store for us on Thursday.

Wellness Week

Well, it is that time again...Wellness Week on the campus of SWU. The big event for Health Services co-sponsored with Counseling services. Honestly this year hasn't been too bad Counseling services has taken over the speaker duties which is a HUGE relief. Now...just pray that the speaker won't be BORING and that the students will hear what the Lord is saying to them. He's a sex therapist if that tells you anything and let me tell you they NEED to listen. This year has proven there is a need for him to be here it's just all about how he presents his information. Pray that they will open their hearts to hear his message. His first presentation is tomorrow's Chapel at 10:50 - I'll let you know how that goes.

Kids...

I'm always amazed at John. The things he comes up with are fascinating of course to me anyway. He told me the other night after cleaning his room that he thought he needed a robot to clean his room while he was playing outside. He said 'it could do all my chores while I'm outside playing. Wouldn't that be neat?!' He smiled at me and then his big blue eyes got big and he said 'it could just do all our housework for us while we are gone during the day and then when we get home we could just play.' How perceptive is that for a 5 year old and how many adults haven't thought of that?! Wouldn't that be a dream come true?

Alex news... well he has another tooth that makes 5. Going a little slower than some but right in line with his brother. He's saying 'uh oh' now. Last night in the tub he would drop his toy over the side of the tub over and over just so he could say 'uh oh' it's more like 'oh oh' but we know what he means. Still not walking but he is standing without holding on more and more so I'm sure sooner or later he's just going to take off and we won't be able to keep up!

Have a great weekend!!!

Prayer Group

At my woman's prayer group last night our devotional was on whether we are honoring God in even the small stuff - like for example our income tax, when we get too much change back returning it or the big discussion was on how we treat each other and how we forget a lot of times how important it is to lift one another up. Especially our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. If we don't life one another up who will. I learned a lot last night. We have to stay committed to the Lord in the little things as much as the big things. Even something as little as being on time for Sunday School.

I'm going to work on this and try my best to lift up my brothers and sisters in Christ more each day!

American Heart Walk

Saturday we walked in the Greenville County American Heart Association Heart Walk in honor of my nephew Trey. It was a beautiful day. They held the walk at Falls Park in Greenville, it's really pretty there. I honestly though that 3 miles was going to kick my butt, but I'm proud to say that it really wasn't bad at all. We had fun. It was a nice walk, very pretty walking along side the river. Trey had the best seat of all in his stroller!

Did you know that more children die from congenital heart defects than childhood cancers? I probably would have never known that had Trey not been born with a heart defect. Your awareness of things completely changes when someone you love is affected by something.

For those of you that read my blog I ask that you pray for a situation at SWU, please. I can't be anymore specific than that. We just need your prayers. Thanks!

FRIDAY!

TGIF! I'm so glad it's Friday! What a beautiful Friday it is! Although it is going to be a busy weekend I look forward to the time off. Work is busy now and the weekends are a relief.

And Happy St. Patrick's Day! John and I made cupcakes with green sprinkles in honor of the day. Great fun! Alex was too tired and didn't make it through this adventure. For now...John loves to make cupcakes with Mommy, I know this will not last much longer so I'm trying to take advantage of it while it lasts. Of course while they baked he did go outside with his Daddy and 'play' in the garage.

Enjoy the weekend...

VACATION

I had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy a few days off last week. It was Spring Break for the student's at SWU, so I took a few days off. It was wonderful. I spent time with my boys and enjoyed just being off. One of the highlights of my time off was spending time with my adorable new nephew Trey. He's such a sweet baby. His parents actually let him spend the night with us on Thursday. I'm honored b/c we are the first to have him for an overnight visit. He was a little angel of course. He looks just like his Daddy. He slept till 8:30 on Friday morning...cousin Alex woke up at 6:30am!! Trey has survived a lot, see Trey was born with a heart defect and has already survived open heart surgery. He's taught me a lot already in his 4 months. He's taught me about the Lord's faithfulness and love. There is nothing like holding a new baby to remind us of God's love. The smiles they reward you with are priceless. I certainty enjoyed my time with you Trey and look forward to many, many more overnight visits. Love ya, buddy!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHAEL!

Well, today is my brother in law Michael's birthday. Although he does have a few faults, these include....
- being a blue flame
- being a Gamecock
- not being a Jeff Gordon fan

All in all he's a pretty good guy. Most importantly he makes my sister happy. He loves her and he manages to live with her and from experience I know that it's not always easy. Recently, he's really impressed me. When given some pretty devastating news regarding his unborn child he rose to the occasion and trusted in the Lord. Through the birth of his son, I saw him care for Ashley with love and tenderness and it made me very proud. Now I watch him with Trey and I can see how much he loves him. He's a great dad. I have a lot of respect for the way he has handled everything that he has been through because I can only imagine how difficult it must have been. I am amazed by your faith in the Lord, Michael.

Hope you have a great day!!

John and Alex

Aren't they cute?! This is from Alex's first birthday party. John was 'helping' him. Just like an older brother. They are such a joy. Just thought I would share.

SPRING FEVER

It's hard not to have Spring fever right now! The flowers are starting to bloom and the sun is bright and warm. It's such a beautiful time when we start to see the rebirth of everything. Time to reflect and thank God for his gifts. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of Winter but for now it's nice just to live in the moment and enjoy this burst of Spring.

HUGS

You can't get a hug without getting one in return!

I really love that quote! Sometimes we really need a hug, too don't we? But just think about the gift you're giving back to the person you're getting the hug from!

I have another HAPPY BIRTHDAY! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA! Lisa is one of my very best friends. We suffered, yes suffered through nursing school together and survived. We shared the joy of graduation and each others weddings together and the birth of our little boys! We have 5 between the 2 of us (WOW!). She's such a sweet person and I appreciate her friendship greatly. She's always their for me when I need advice about anything and I really appreciate that. Especially parenting advice because it's not easy knowing the right thing to do but having someone to talk to helps. Thanks Lisa for always listening to me. I hope you have a great day!! Love ya!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMA!

Today is my Moma's birthday. I won't put her age... :-) I'm very lucky to have her in my life. She has always been such a wonderful Mother. Now, she is not only my mother but my friend. I don't know what I would do without her. She's very loving and kind. I think the neatest thing now is watching her with my boys. It's fun to see her as a grandmother. She's taught me so much in my life. How to be faithful and trust in the Lord most importantly and how to love with your whole heart.

Thanks for everything Moma! You're the best!!

Happy Birthday Nanny!

Today is my Grandmother's 86th birthday! Nanny Jessie has always been such a blessing in my life. I can remember doing such fun things with her when I was a little girl. From playing in the back yard at her house, to shopping with her, eating breakfast at Hardee's, going to the jockey lot, and watching TV. The memories go on and on. She taught me how to make cobblers(all varieties) for which my family will be eternally grateful. She is really something. Very strong, stubborn woman. She recently won queen at the assisted living facility on Valentine's Day where she has been living now for a little over a year. That was pretty exciting for her. I think the most important thing I've learned from Nanny is to love your family by showing them. She's not the type to tell you over and over again that she loves you but yet there is NO denying - it you just know. I hope that my family, especially my children and grandchildren will one day be able to say that about me.

I love you, Nanny!!

Happy Birthday to ME

31 years today. WOW! Where does the time go?! What have I learned? HMM...I think I have learned the simplest things. Put God first always, love your family and enjoy life to the fullest. How simple is that?

Thanks Shon for the Happy Birthday...you get lots of points for that.

Thanks to Candice, too for wishing me a Happy Birthday. I'm sure it will be great day!

What a day!

Man has it been a busy day!! It's so dreary out there, too!!

Well, seeing that it is already 3:30 and I'm just now posting you can tell that I have not had any free time. I have a story for you and then a comment on the race.

I was humbled on Saturday by my 5 year old. I was busy cleaning the house getting ready for Alex's birthday party. Alex was taking a nap and I was getting the vacuum cleaner out doing different things and John was playing outside. He rang the doorbell repeatedly. Of course my immediate reaction was to become annoyed, I was thinking you are going to wake up Alex. I ran to the door saying stop that... what was he doing? Standing there holding a flower for me. He had gone out in the rain to pick me a flower. I was brought to tears. And I felt like dirt. So, I guess the moral is not to fly off the handle too quickly and to be thankful for those time when the doorbell rings even when it isn't convenient for us - it might just be a beautiful flower from someone who loves us. What a gift!

Now, about the race. Jimmie Johnson won. Unfortunately his reputation is tainted. I saw one article today on MSN where the lead in was "Cheater wins Daytona 500" I really think that's too bad - he's going to have to live that stigma down forever.......at any rate it's on to California next week so we will see how it plays out. There was no lack of drama in Daytona that is for sure. Looks like we're in for another great season.

Till tomorrow -

Gentlemen Start Your Engines...

Well, today is the Daytona 500. It might surprise some of you, not those of you who know me that I am a big NASCAR fan. I guess my Dad first exposed me to racing. He loved Dale Earnhardt and then my husband loves racing. Some might say why would you ever watch a sport where cars just go around in circles (someone actually asked me that last week). Well, there is much more to it than that. First of all these are the 40 best drivers in the world, who've qualified to be in the race. They have to set up the car and no, I don't know what all goes in to the car set up - it depends on the track, the weather, etc. Then the tires come in to the play, pit strategy and then driving and staying out of accidents. It's very interesting. But, you really have to see a race live to fully appreciate it - nothing like hearting the engines start up or the smell of rubber...(Shon should really appreciate that comment).

This year was especially good because BON JOVI opened with a special concert for the 500 and what could be better than BON JOVI (with special guest Jennifer Nettles whose also AWESOME, right Candice?!)? As you can tell I'm a HUGE BON JOVI fan as well. He sang 'It's My Life', 'Have a Nice Day' and 'You Can't Go Home'- duet with Jennifer Nettles. It was awesome.

Jeff Burton is on the pole but Jeff Gordon is on the outside (2nd). So, we'll see how it plays out. Stay tuned I'll update you later with my thoughts on the race...

Taking Advantage

Have you ever been taken advantage of? Well, my student's are taking advantage of me...or should I say they are taking advantage of a policy that I have to enforce. And I'm taking it personally. I don't exactly know why it upsets me so much. I guess because I try so hard to be good to them and when you get taken advantage of it makes you feel hurt and betrayed. It occurred to me on the way to work today that the Lord must feel that way about us as his children. He is so good to us - beyond words good to us and how do we repay him? We don't thank him enough for our blessings and we certainty don't spend enough time with him in his word seeking his guidance for our lives. I think I see the lesson he is teaching me here.

Have a great day!!

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Valentine's Day is my first post that's cool! I think I'm going to enjoy the opportunity to express my thoughts here. I've caught the blogging bug from reading Candice and Sara's blog.

Have you seen the Publix commercial where the little boy tells his mom he wants to make a cake? She assumes he wants to make the cake for a girl that he likes. They have a great time together making the cake. Then the next day when she takes him to school he leaves the cake with her all along having made it for her. The commercial brings tears to my eyes every time. It's so sweet. Especially since I have 2 little boys of my own now. I feel so blessed to have them and right now I have them all to myself. Their eyes light up when they see me, me, just me. It's the greatest feeling in the whole world - to be loved that much. At the same time it does make me sad to know that the time is so short that this love will last....I know they will always love me but this all consuming love that they have for me will not last forever. Now, don't get me wrong I really wouldn't want it to, I want them to grow up and fall in love, get married and move on. I just feel so blessed right now to have those special little guys in my life. God has blessed me in so many ways -- given me so much love. I mean I have a wonderful family 2 very loving parents, a wonderful sister and brother in law with a beautiful new nephew. Very special friends! And I married the only man I've ever loved and that love has grown beyond anything I could have ever imagined and now our love has created these 2 beautiful little guys. What an incredible journey to be on!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!
