Voting

I am behind in posting I realize...no Halloween pictures yet. I need to get to that very soon. They have 'fixed' our computers at work so that we can't download any pictures from our computers. This is due to students placing inappropriate pictures on Facebook and MySpace so....I find it harder to find the time at home to post pictures.

Stay tuned for family pictures...Candice came down this weekend and took our pictures in Falls Park in Greenville. I'm sure they are going to be awesome. She took about 400 shots - some posed some candid. I can't wait to see them. I'll be using some of them for Christmas cards...

I voted today. I always feel like I'm choosing between the lesser of 2 evils. My sister and I had a pretty heated discussion about it last night. I'm a little more liberal and she's a little more conservative. The cool thing is thought that we can share our opinions and still love and respect one another. That's a credit to our parents and the home we were raised in! I just don't like to let moral issues cloud my judgment when it comes to politicians. I like to keep church and state separate. We'll see how it turns out I guess. It was cool how the touch screens worked and how they had an explanation for all the amendments. It was a very easy, fast process. I was the 86th voter at my precinct and the older lady who checked me in was very excited with the turn out. She made me smile =).

Look for a Happy Birthday shout out tomorrow to someone very special!!

I am with you on the voting thing. I just have to believe that no matter WHO is in office...that God is big enough to have accomplished what he wants accomplished.

The pictures are now half edited. YAY! The hardest part is that almost ALL of them are good...I can't bring myself to delete any...so I'll leave you with the choices!!
I will try to post at least a few today....

keep church and state separate... don't think about moral issues when it comes to choosing leadership...

when you teach your children to love God and others is that the church side of you or is that the state side? What do you accomplish by being a "split minded person?" Do you think God is okay with that?

If a politician can't be trusted with little things (morals), they can't be trusted with big things. So God says... but what does He know. It's a state thing, not a church thing.

I have to lean towards agreeing with "anonymous". I hope you will still love me after I voice my opinion as you stated that you still love Ashley despite the differences of opinion! :) I think this country NEEDS to join church & state more. We need moral leaders. Leaders that we know kneel in prayer regarding the multitude of decisions they have to make. Leaders who display a HIGH level of integrity. Leaders who are truthful. I could go on and on ...... Do you still love me?? heee heee heee

Hey, cool! Looks like this is a drop in party, mind if I come in? :-) Everyone seems to be making some good points.

I feel uneasy each time I vote, regardless of who I've voted for, because there is no way to iron out all the variables or know another person's heart.

It does disturb me to see you (like many others) say that you feel like you have to keep church and state separate because I don't think Christians have that luxury. We agreed to offer ourselves to God, heart, mind, soul and spirit. That should influence EVERY area of our life (within reason - not sock color, etc). For me, I don't know how separating "church and state" would change my vote, but I guess it could.

Somebody made a comment like "anonymous'" to me re: music when I was in college. I was furious for a couple of weeks. But the person who said it to me made some good points so I've thought about it many times since. Although I still don't agree entirely with the anonymous from my past, I do see the point he was making and have adjusted my thinking somewhat. Whatever... sorry to get off the subject.

I love each of you and am glad we are on this journey together. Lord willing, we will learn lots and have many more exchanges like this. It's a good way to sharpen iron. (Proverbs 27:17)

Topic for further discussion? Do you think that the American tendency to separate church from state has caused "the lesser of two evils" phenomenon by discouraging Christian interaction in politics? (Sorry this is the history teacher in me coming out. But I would be interest in your responses.)

First of all I want to clarify that by keeping church and state separate I'm not saying that politians should not have morals. I just think that sometimes it is best to keep these 2 bodies separate. We don't want the government telling us when to worship or how to worship, how to spend our tithes and most pastors/preachers don't want to pay that infamous tax money...well I just don't think that basing whether or not a person can do a job by whether or not they beleive that a woman can choose whether or not to have an abortion or gay rights is not necessarily the best reason to NOT choose them for the job. Or just because they allign themselves with the particilar party that says it stands for these beliefs. I think we've seen that many, many of these people fall no matter what religion or political party they are affiliated with. And Sara K. to an extent I do agree with you but to an extent I think it's just a decline in the morality of our country in general. If you look back in history there have never been strong, moral politicians. We just didn't get to watch them in 'glass houses' like we do now so we don't know exactly what they did in their personal life. I doubt that things have really changed that much I think we as the American people just know more because of the media. But by keeping church and state seperate I never said that meant not to think about moral issues. You just don't have to let that be the foremost thought in your mind when you choose a candidate without researching ALL the issues at hand.

"If the church got it right, there would be little left for the government to do." = SaraC

Preach it, Sister! You're getting a big "Amen" from me :-)

Here's something fun to do. Go to quiz farm and take the "Finding your Political Ideology" quiz. Warning, the questions are loaded and vague. Here's how I placed - 77% Libertarian, 51% Anarchist, etc. WOW! Who woulda guessed?? :-) The 'Southern Secessionist Party' wasn't included. Darn.

Now, I'm going to take the personality disorder quiz! Teeheehee!
